RE: Dent on Travel Trailer Frame

if there is no evident scratch or chip in the paint, i wouldn't worry about it. i work with a lot of structual and it either came in that way or happened in the shop. alot of ppl would be amazed what some of this stuff looks like and what it measures out at-lotta mill tolerence allowed with structual.

RE: Where to purchase Fuel for Weber 220?

just a thought
i did the math and it comes out to 13 1lb cylenders or 1 20 lb'er. i figured with the 20 lb tank i come out ahead and since with the cost of everything we do a lot more cooking campsite rather than going out to the local restraunts.
i got the newer tank with the built in reserve(says it will run an added 60 min) and i do keep a few of the 1 pounders with me just in case.
aditional added feature-i chain the grill(coleman roadtrip)/tank together(sometimes with the picnic table, depends)-it won't stop anyone but trying to move either one by itself is not the easiest-together, forget it :)

RE: 35' to 40' TT's?

my 32' (35'6 over all-56'10 combined) goes all over with me. usually week ends at 1 of 3 local st parks that i know where i'll fit but vacations are anywhere and so far no problem. usually stay at private(full hook up) CG's for vacation but i do let em know my size when booking and in 3 trips(once at a COE CG) i've not been turned away or had problems getting into a site.
biggest problem i have run into are utility poles and trees to get the 2 slides out on 1 side and being able to get the awning out on the other. just have to be a little more presciese on where/how ya park it.

RE: Un-Level Sites

i've seen bad b4 but that one takes the cake. on unlevel sites like that, 2 doors helps. usually one is close to ground level. glad you worked around it.

RE: Chevy 1500TV?

you can try looking at the towing guide on the home page of trailer life. only goes down to '99 and for the 1500 it ranges from 4000 to 8200 depending on engine/rear end/2 or 4 wheel drv.
your friend will still need a brake controller if he doesn't have one. personally i don't think i'd tow it with out a weight dist. hitch with at least a friction bar sway control. you could go low end on these things (or used), that would depend on what you plan to do with it once you get it home. will it stay put or are you planning to travel with it. if traveling you might as well spend the $$ now and get a decient setup. also alot will depend on how experenced your friend is with towing. if you just bought this (used i'm assumeing) did anything come with the TT? hitch head(thing with the ball on it) 2 steel bars app. 3 ft long-anything?

RE: How to install Digital Thermostat?

i did the hunter install and added the extra fan switch. in reality i probably didn't have to though. it works with the AC and manual fan only and don't think i have ever used it on low except to check my install. if you really feel the need for one, check out the hunter install and you'll probably be able to figure it out from there

RE: Plug in on vehicle

Double check that ALL of your tow vehicle's fuses are in place. Many times tow vehicles will have separate fuses for trailers, and those trailer fuses may not come installed from the factory.
chevys are good for this. i found out about this practice when i dropped the TT off at the dealer and the ele jack wouldn't work-even while hooked to the TV. found and fixed this befor picking up the TT and jack worked fine. on mine w/tow pkg they put in a 'dummy' 40 amp fuse-just replace with a real one and works fine. on the flip side, if you leave the TV/TT hooked together for any length of time you run the possibility of draining both battries. even though my last 2 TV said they had a circuit built in to keep the TV batt from draining below a certain level-take it from me-i don't work. found this out a few weeks ago with present TV while on vacation. left back up cam monitor on for several days and when i went to move it-nadda. luckily i had packed the charger for some reason and it did come in handy.

RE: Gas vs Electric water heater

depending on how fast i need hot water i'll run both if i need it fast and just ele if i don't. very rarely use the gas and have yet to run out of hot water and that's with both of us taking showers 1 after the other.

RE: Traveling with the Dog

i travel with 2, sometimes 3 small dogs and they do ride in the truck with me-but-
if i needed to i would have no problem putting em in crates in the TT(carry crates for both) granted some common scense is needed here-have em as far forward as possible and some sort of ventliation. people and govt officals transport both domesticated and wild animals of all sorts in trailers all the time and my TT is a heck of a lot better than some i've seen prople use.
this i don't really understand
I would NEVER put my dog in a any towed vehicle. It's too dangerous. You may need to either get a bigger TV or put a cap on the truck.
only 2 things i can think of-no ventilation(see above) or having an accident. most TT's i've seen in an accident, the TV wasn't in much better shape than the TT was so it really wouldn't matter where they were.
am i missing something here somewhere??

RE: Filling Fresh Water tanks

if speed is no concern while re filling at the CG i may have a solution for ya. i got one of those 40 gal fresh water poly bags that i fill on the bed lid of the TV. park the TV, hook up the hoses and let gravity do it's thing. my fill is in back and i have run over 40' of hose and as long as the bag is higher than the fill hole on the TT, no prob. i probably refilled 5 times one vacation(2 weeks) while at an army corp CG. bought those portable tanks for just such occasions and was sure glad i did that yr.
as for the slow fill at home-had same prob on a different TT. had a piece of 1/2" hose that i cut 5 or 6' off and used that. still couldn't have it wide open but could fill alot faster. always kept it in the TT with the water hoses-never knew when-or where- you may need it.
on looking at sig, that's where i used it-picture a blue bag on the back of the TV with a hose running to the back of the TT

RE: Direct TV From the house?

i started with dish. when i had it installed i had em drop a line at the garage for the camper-even told em what i was doing with it-very up front with them. at the time it was no problem.
then 1 winter day they called and wanted to do an equiptment test. did the 3 house units 1st then told her i had the other one out in the camper. things got real quiet for a moment and then she tried to tell me i needed a 2nd account for the TT(and double the cost)
tried to explain that they knew what i was going to do with it but got no where. pretty much told her what she could do with her 2nd acct and the equiptment i had.
called direct, told em what i wanted to do(3 house, 1 TT) and was told that as long as it was all the same 'billing' address that there was no problem. so far been happy with them.
as for CG aiming-enter the local zip code and get the azmuth. i use a sat finder(kinda hard of hearing so having it make noise next to me helps)
i get it close, loosen up the elevation nuts, go up/dn, if nothing move the tripod a few degrees and repeat. can usually get it fairly quick. be for warned about those sat finders-they find every one up there. have the wife watching the signal meters on the tv or if setting up solo, i tighten 1 nut and go look my self till i get a signal. also don't worry if it's a little low after you fine tune it in-have noticed once you remove the finder that the signal strength usually goes up a little.
also go to radio shack and get the short roof mount tripod-paid like $20 for mine-beats paying $99 for a real satalite one.

RE: How do I get the "travel trailer" taste out of the water?

you didn't say if the TT was new or had been winterized so it's kinda hard to say what's causing it.
you could try sanitizing the fresh water system(do a search-there's plenty of info on how) with a bleach solution. can also try filters-mine came with one on the kitchen cold, but the CG i'm at right now had funkey smelling water so i added an in line filter also--did wonders.
as for drinking it-i'm one of those that do(with in reasaon-if stinky/dirty forget it) mostly for cooking/coffee-if thursty will grab a bottled water-it's cold

RE: 2 switches for hot water heater??

on mine there is a little picture of an ele and gas symbol with a red lite in between to let you know if one or the other isn't working.
like others have said-if using ele, make darn sure you have a full hot water tank 1st

RE: Adding a Cable TV Jack For Dish..How To?

you can buy the kits at most rv stores(outside box, connecror, short length of cable)
i added 2 but usually use one. i put one outside where the cabinet for the dvd player is, use a splitter after the sat box and ran another coax to the bedroom tv. this is so the 2nd tv slaves off the livingroom tv.(also got the remote extenders from radio shack so the remote works in the bedroom)
i added the 2nd connector for the 2nd tv by a storage unit. when i bring 2nd sat box i just have to unplug the slave cable then hook up from the connector. i tried using an a/b switch but didn't want to work that way-probably need different type but i had this one laying around(and still is :) )most of the time i use the 1 box but like now, when we are gone for a while, i bring the 2nd box.
this way i left the cable in and bat wing in normal condition in case i ever needed them(radio runs through bat wing-dumb idea-basically helps the FM only-like to change that but so far haven't found a correct replacement for it) plus i'm not sure if you could run 2 boxes of the built in setup

RE: No power

BIL had a similar problem. had 110 when plugged in but no 12v. bat was good and would hold a charge and run the systems for a while but converter would not charge the bat. checked his 12v systems at the converter and all dead. all the fuses looked good but i started pulling em all. his has a reverse hook up circuit with 2-40 amp fuses. they didn't look cooked but when pulled they were. only thing we can figure is something happened while it was in for service.
when it comes to those spade fuses, just because they look good-they could be fried w/o looking like it till you take em out and look at em.
something else to consider-invest in a cheap multi-meter. they can be invaluable in tracking down problems

RE: Storage question

for me it's simple. if the slides go out the stabs come down. sits in the driveway most of the summer with them down, hibernates through the winter with them up.

RE: Electric awning VS hand operated?

best thing i have found are those metal cloths pin looking paper clips. i use em as chip clips, paper clips and yes, to hang my awning lights. i have several types of lights but like the x-mas looking black light ones the best. keep a clip at every 2nd light and they go up/come down real fast. i just start pulling on 1 end and load em right into a bag.
love those clips so much i buy 50 or so at a time. come in useful for numerious thing and are cheap enough that as you lose em, it really doesn't matter. probably have 20 or so in the house and about the same loose in the TT with 2 un opened containers of em in there too.
